The Canmore team is not currently accepting new clients

Calgary Midwives Cooperative is pleased to announce that midwifery care will return to Canmore, Banff and the surrounding area.

About the Canmore Team:

Team Canmore offers care to low-risk women located in the Bow Valley including, Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise and Exshaw. Women from outside these areas, including Jasper and other areas are also welcome to come birth their babies in either Canmore or Banff Hospitals with the support of midwifery services.

Prenatal appointments:
Team Canmore is pleased offer the traditional model of home based care.
  • Prenatal appointments are generally 30-60 minutes in length.
  • All lab tests and ultrasounds that a physician would offer a pregnant woman will be offered to any midwifery client.
  • Prenatal visits will be monthly until 28 weeks of pregnancy.
  • From 28 weeks to 36 weeks your visits will be scheduled every 2 weeks.
  • From 36 weeks onwards your visits will be weekly, until you deliver.
Labour and birth:
Labour care will be provided in the comfort of your own home with delivery in one of two Bow Valley Hospitals. Birth at home or birth center may also be an option for some women and is something that you and your midwife can discuss.

Postpartum care:
Your midwife will visit you at home or hospital postpartum about 3 times in the first week following delivery.

Women are then seen at 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 6 weeks postpartum. At the 6 week postpartum visit the woman and newborn are discharged from midwifery care and will resume care with your family physician. You medical records will be forwarded to your physician.
